I love purple, I don't wear it that much but I love its mystery and deepness but also the many shades it comes in with a little more red or blue.

Our Creative Space...

My mother is addicted to crafty blogs, she loves looking at work of other's, lurking, and reading about crafter's lifes.
It always brings her pleasure going through these blogs, but this time she got herself in to trouble. She found a pattern through the blog GipsyBazar with the thought to make a bag out of it. But I convinced her to make a throw, like the original for me he he he :)
So instead of about 24 squares she'll have to make a hundred, I hope she'll still love me when she has finished it :D

I love the boho feeling and colorful pattern, and you can see how it will become below.

The last picture is taken from GipsyBazar, where you can find all the credits and buy the pattern.

Marmaris

As you might know we live in Marmaris. A small and quiet town in winter time, and a highly popular place for local and foreign tourism in Summer. It used to be a small fisher's village, but with the tourism most of that is gone, we wrote about this before in this previous blogpost.
But in small little nooks and corners you can still find some people who are loyal to their history, and it is refreshing to see those.

It is funny though as when you look at these pictures you get a very nostalgic feeling but just 30 meters away on the left side is the very chic and expensive yacht marine with expensive boutiques and million dollar yachts. At the right side across the water is the bar street, where all the buildings are bars, not a typical fisher's town location.

As many of the local people all of a sudden got extremely rich with the sudden raise of the value of their properties it is really rare to see a local dedicated to his work of origin, but actually the true colors of Marmaris are much more valuable than the ones that are bringing money in.

Blue Leather Tote Bag, Shoulder Bag, Large Handbag, Leather Shopper by CitaDElle
Navy - Handmade Leather ballet flat shoes by TheDrifterLeather

I love this kind of blue, cobalt, navy, a bit darker and mysterious, combined with grey to avoid a blue overload :) As you might have noticed I don't add any heals in my outfits, I totally can not walk on them and always use flat shoes, so heels just wouldn't be 'me' :)

Our Creative Space...

Mum just started with a new project, we'll see what it will become in the next few days as her plans can change along the way.

I always love crochet patterns, they remind me of some kind of scriptic code :) A code for all the crochetters in the world.

Şahmaran

I wanted to share with you my mother day's present and the story behind it. For many years now I've been collecting reverse paintings. These are mostly folkloric paintings done on glass, first the details and than the backgrounds, thus the name reverse painting.

This one is Turkish, from Mardin, in the south-east of Turkey and represents the Şahmaran, a mythological being, half woman, half snake.

The legend of the Şahmaran dates to the times before the Islam, when animism was the general believe in Turkey and further in Central Asia. The word comes from the Persian  "şah-ı meran'', mother of the snakes, and in that time, this benign snake mother never became old and when dying her soul passed on to her daughter.

In later times, this friendly legend was changed in one horrible tale of treason and ends with the poor Şahmaran cut in pieces, cooked and fed to the sultan. With the end of the animism, all traces of matriarchal
power had to be eradicated.
I, of course very much prefer the first version. And I love these old paintings.
You can see more Şahramans here.

And this one, painted on a plate by Estella  is beautiful too.

Another little escape

As we work from home and are entirely dependent on our incomes from our online shops, weekends and vacations are pretty much out of the question for us. We work everyday and most often much longer then office hours.
Sounds like we are crazy but I know many people prefer to work like we do, a creative job, even if the hours are long, it is a satisfying life.

But like every person we also need some free time to re energize :)
We are very fortunate to live at a place where many people come by planes and cars to have vacation. The amount of bays are enormous and we most likely have only been to 20% of those bays in our surroundings, although we check a lot of them there are so many we will most likely never see them at all.

So yesterday we had an escape of a few hours and went down to several bays, collected some sea urchins (a little work related but fun) and enjoyed the beauty.

After the 15th of June these bays will be pretty crowded with local tourists, driving down from the big cities, but until the schools close down for the summer, these beaches our pretty much ours :)

Building houses in these kind of areas is forbidden but some of these lands are owned by people. As they can not build on them they often use the lands to grow things. Here you see a field right below the mountains and going down to the beach, filled with olive trees and surrounded by handmade stone walls. The walls are made of the stones that were on the fields and needed to be removed to be able to plant the trees. They are made in the old Greek fashion without the use of any cement, a real art on its own.

We also came across a wharf again, people working hard to fix the boats for the season, in a few weeks this place will be crowded with local tourists coming for the sea and boat trips.

For now the picnic tables, parasols and beach beds are waiting to be used.

In yet another bay were these amazing trees, hardly any earth left from the waves of the sea, they got tangled with a large rock, which most likely is the reason that they are still standing.

I know, we are lucky :) Hope you enjoyed this trip with us!
