Last but not Least

Remember the swap fun we started a few months ago? The last two packages arrived! (The swap has ended, but we are thinking about a new one!)

Andrea's (of Crownology) package made a world travel before coming to us, I'm guessing that a postman was thinking of keeping it as it is so gorgeous! But eventually it arrived and we are so glad it did as she has sent some pretty amazing stuff. The package was already like a treat, look at the beautiful star, of course we love it! But the actual treat was inside. A gorgeous drawing made by Andrea, the Morning Swim 1952. The bathing cap is made of a real bathing cap of 1952 as you can see in the picture here under. The bathing suit is cut out of Japanese origami paper and even the straps are made of thread, so much lovely details and patience in this work, so glad that it arrived! Crownology will open later this year, and her Morning Swim series will be available then, so keep an eye on her shop, her banner already looks very promising! Thank you so much Andrea! In the mean time you can also have a look at her beautiful blog.

Greet aka FleurFatale has some lovely felted cat brooches in her shop (among other gorgeous jewelry) but as she knows that we are dog lovers, she made us a super cute dog brooch, among with my favorite card she designed, Be Different. Greet has a very inspiring blog and a gorgeous shop, be sure to visit both! Thank you so much, Greet!

Our Creative Space...

Thursday seems to have arrived so soon this week! Already time for another 'Our Creative Space...'. This week I wanted to show you not only work, which are Sea Urchin rings ready to go except they have to stay like that for a few hours to dry. But also the price we pay for having a big working space...

The huge table with always a huge mess..... it seems like we are cleaning up all the time :)

And of course a huge amount of windows to clean *sigh*... don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, we both love our big bright space, these are only the bad things that come with it, just that you know, we are not so spoiled as it seems :)

What is this?

The other day when I was at our workingspace I felt something itching on my shoulder. When I looked I saw this tiny (1.5cm= 5/8'') neon green worm (Catepillar?). It was moving like crazy and super fast. Luckly camera was nearby, I took it on my finger to take a proper picture. In no time it moved from my pointing finger to my pinky, handpalm and up again towards my shoulder.

His/ her movements where hilarious.

Never have seen this kind of fun creature before, wonder how it ended up in our workspace.
After the pictures I've set her free between some lovely leaves...

Our Creative Space...

This week's creative space involves sea urchins again, but this time we have been working on something very special! The result will be in the StaroftheEast shop later today.
It is amazing the mess we create while creating! We have a 14 meter long table, and still every centimeter is occupied all the time! It seems that we are constantly busy with making a mess, is it just us or is a mess essential to be able to create?

Our Creative Space...

This week's Creative Space is quite exotic for many, now don't be jealous (he heee). You can see that we are both deeply concentrated with something...

The reason is that the shells are sooo tiny that you have to look very closely to even see them between the sand. If you walk on the beach you won't notice them and will think that they are tiny stones. These shells can only be found at one beach, a 1 hour drive from our home, a little paradise!

We are now busy with tiny glass bottles, filling them with these tiny shells and other sea treasures, the results will be soon available in the shop!

You can see more workspaces at Kootoyoo's blog!

All those shells are dead when we collect them between the grains of sand. The ones alive are upright 'glued' to the rocks. The dead ones are so tiny that is obvious they are babies that didn't make it in the waves.

That got me thinking that I know nothing about the reproductive system of shells. A net search discovered many fascinating facts.

Most shells are either male or female, but some are both, or change sex to accomodate to the situation. Sometimes eggs and sperm are tossed to the waves to find each other and sometimes the fertilization takes place internally.

Sometimes the shells die after reproducing and sometimes the female eats the partner's penis after the paring...a mollusk with an attitude.

Beautiful Saturday

We had a lovely start of the weekend by going to the beach yesterday to search for shells. On the way back we saw this beautiful boat, still in the making.

You've got to appreciate the amazing craftmanship of the boat, it is really a wonderful thought that this beauty will carry people on the sea in a few months time!

And Saturday evening my treasury has been featured on the Frontpage of Etsy, actually it is there as I'm writting this! Yes! We are ready for the weekend! Hope you'll have a wonderful remaining Saturday and beautiful Sunday!

Our Creative Space...

This week's creative space is in the sewing room. We are having a break of jewelry making to keep creativity and motivation flowing, changing material from time to time is very refreshing. I always find it fascinating to see the weird unexpected stages a handmade product goes through, so I wanted to share that with you.

The past 3 days we have been busy with wall hangings for our giftshop, these where some of the procedures they went through. The finished results can be seen here.

Flickr Favorites- Less is More

1. Minimalism In Red, 2. Me trying out urban minimalism, 3. Spinose Minimalism, 4. Minimalism

Sometimes less is more, unfortunatly mum and I never have been able to live minimalistic, we simply have/love too many stuff. These photographs are all simple, but I had to mix the colors to give it some playfulness. I hope it will make you calm and give you a happy feeling...
